Do You Recognize Conan’s Hair?

Yesterday we asked our Facebook Followers if they are able to recognize Conan’s hair if given three alternatives to choose from. These were the three close-up pictures we showed:

Conan O'Brien - Who's Your Ginger? The responses were mixed but there was an overall agreement that the left picture looks like dog hair. Most of the respondents believed that the right picture shows Conan’s hair and they were generally very confident about it.

Were they right? See below the three original photos and judge for yourself. Who was your ginger? If you had it right, you can claim bragging rights and call yourself Coco disciple of the month.

You are right but you are wrong, too.

The campaign team agrees, inequality is a problem that needs to be addressed. However, braking the law by camping on city grounds and annoying, even harassing bystanders is certainly not the right way to fight it. Claiming that the majority is with you while living from this majority’s tax money is just offensive. You can reach more through honest work or school, where you learn basic things like the fact that 99% of a city’s population cannot actually sleep in 10 tents on town square.

Should Conan take part in the Wok World-cup?

Wok World-Cup 2012

For the 10th time, German Late Night show host Stefan Raab invites to the annual Wok world-cup. Modified Chinese woks are used to make timed runs down an Olympic bobsled track. There are competitions for one-person-woksleds and four-person-woksleds, the latter using four woks per sled. The typical racing woks are the ordinary round-bottomed Chinese pans, usually directly imported from China. The only modifications are that the bottom is reinforced with an epoxy filling and the edges of the wok are coated with polyurethane foam to avoid injuries. To improve performance, the underside of the woks are often heated with a blowlamp before the race.

While most of the recent races were fought between Germany, Austria, and Ireland only, the 10th anniversary race will be the begin of an internationalization. Besides winter sport athletes, many of the participants are, just like the host, from showbiz. This opens the question if the mother of all show hosts, Conan, should participate as well. After all, being a winter sport world champion will not just win the hearts of Alaskan voters but promotes exercise and sets an example for those who know snow only from the Wii Winter games.

What do you think, should Conan be a Wok Racer this March?

Jimmy Fallon, NBC sued for alleged ‘gender bias’ in the workplace

A former stage manager for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon has filed a lawsuit against NBC Universal, Fallon, and employees of Late Night, alleging that the show has a gender bias. In papers filed in New York on Jan. 10, Paul Tarascio–a former stage manager for Late Night With Conan O’Brien–claims he was demoted to while working for Fallon after being told by Late Night director David Diomdi, ”Jimmy just prefers to take direction from a woman.” Tarascio–who says he was told he had received his first job as a “last resort” because a woman was not available–alleges that he was then replaced by “a less qualified woman” who was “immediately a disaster.” When he complained about being replaced by a woman, Tarascio says he was told, “You know Jimmy. He loves his woman.”

The court papers obtained by EW claim Tarascio was fired after he had complained to show officials and union representatives, and that his position was allegedly filled by a woman. “Mr. Fallon’s conduct and attitudes towards show positions further evidences the gender bias which resulted in the discriminatory conduct towards [Tarascio],” the lawsuit reads. Tarascio is seeking punitive damages; reps for Late Night and Jimmy Fallon have yet to respond to EW’s request for comment. NBC is facing another late-night related lawsuit: Jay Leno and the network has been sued by a religious organization leader who took issue with the host’s jab linking Mitt Romney’s wealth and a Sikh religious site.

Conan O’Brien-Produced Comedy Starring Rebel Wilson Gets Pilot Order At CBS

CBS has given a pilot green light to Super Fun Night, a multi-camera comedy pilot written by and starring Australian actress-comedian Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids). The project, from Warner Bros TV and Conan O’Brien’s studio-based Conaco banner, follows three nerdy female friends on their ”funcomfortable” quest to have super fun every Friday night. O’Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger are executive producing, with Wilson co-executive producing.

Despite CBS’ comedy brand being built on multi-camera sitcoms, Super Fun Night is the network’s first multi-camera comedy pilot this season. CBS’ first two half-hour pilot orders went to single-camera projects, both from feature writer-directors: Jon Favreau’s Tweaked and an untitled Nick Stoller project.

CBS Greenlights New Pilot From Conan O’Brien and Rebel Wilson

Rebel Wilson

It looks like Conan O’Brien is going to get his own show (well another one).

CBS just greenlit a pilot for Super Fun Night, starring and created by Bridesmaids actress Rebel Wilson. The show will center around three girlfriends with  a nerdy streak who make it their goal to have as much fun as possible every Friday night.

As self-fulfilling as the title is, the show has brought on a pretty powerful group of comedians to back it. Conan’s television firm Conaco will be producing the show alongside executive producers Jeff Ross (Conan, Kids In The Hall) and David Kissinger (Eagleheart). O’Brien is also signed on as an executive producer, though it is unknown whether or not he will star. Still, I’m sure we can expect to see a bit of his signature on it.

Wilson is certainly no stranger to TV, starring in mostly indie produced television comedies before breaking out with Bridesmaids. She is currently attached to several film projects in production, including What To Expect When You’re Expecting and the newest Ice Age sequel (I think we’re up to seven now?).

It’s hard to know what to expect from her, but if she pulls some talent from Bridesmaids I think we can all be happy. With any luck, this will be another step in showing that female comedians can push comedy even further without all the hassle of a male lead.

More Than A Sequel

Tom FriendCourtesy of Tristar Pictures Tom Friend, Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Mel Kiper, Jr. in a scene from “Jerry Maguire”.

Editor’s note: Thursday, Academy Award winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. visited ESPN’s Bristol campus to promote his new movie Red Tails, opening Friday nationwide. Gooding won the 1996 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Jerry Maguire. The movie about a sports agent’s struggles, also starring Tom Cruise, featured many cameos by dozens of sports figures including ESPN/ABC personalities past and present. Here’s ESPN’s Tom Friend’s unusual story about how he made it to the big screen.

The residual checks come in every other month or so, in paper-thin envelopes.

Sometimes they’re worth $4.78; sometimes $8.74.

No, it’ll never make me rich.

But, in every other way, Jerry Maguire has shown me the money.

You can’t put a price on being in an Oscar-nominated movie. I’m not in there for long; I’m not in there full view. But I was in a scene of Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding and, uh, Mel Kiper. And no one can take that away from me.

People ask all the time how I landed a movie role — if you want to call it a “role” — and I tell them it really is who you know in Hollywood. Or who you do lunch with.

Back in 1994 when I was writing for the New York Times, I met Chris Connelly at an ESPN audition in L.A.

At the time, Chris was the editor of Premiere Magazine, and we spoke about writing and sports and acting. I told him I’d love to write a Hollywood piece for him someday, and, about a year or so later, he called to offer me an assignment.

“I want you to write a cover article,” he said.

“On who?” I answered.

“Well, it’s a guy who likes sports and is sort of a guy’s guy,” Chris said. “I think you’re the perfect writer for it.”

“On who?” I answered.

“Tom Cruise,” Chris said.

“Done,” I said.
